Acclaimed for her luscious voice and “enviable top notes”- OperaWire, Puerto Rican soprano Clara Luz Iranzo has made her appearance in opera and concert work in Europe, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the United States. She was just named winner of the Performance Engagement Prize at the Sicily Music Festival Competition after performing in the finals at Teatro Comunale Tina di Lorenzo this July. She was awarded a concert tour at three distinguished festivals across Italy. Additionally, she is scheduled to sing Pamina inThe Magic Flute with Cali Opera in January 2026 and Micaëla in Carmen with Regina Opera in May 2026.
Iranzo recently made her debut at the prestigious Salle Cortot in Paris in concert this summer. She also made her debut at The Kaufman Music Center in recital with J´Nai Bridges which was celebrated with high praise. In February of 2025, she made her debut as Diana and Giove (as Diana) in Cali Opera’s production of La Calisto and Laetitia in The Old Maid and The Thief with SAS Opera Company. Clara Luz has also workshopped and performed Theresa Alvarez in Missy Mazzoli’s The Listeners which is commissioned by the Norwegian State Opera, Opera Philadelphia and Lyric Opera of Chicago. She made her debut as Bettina in the World Premiere of Rossini Perduto by David Winkler with Long Island Concert Orchestra in May as well as Nedda (Pagliacci) and Cathy (Wuthering Heights) in Cali Opera’s scene showcase. Most recently, the Cali Opera production directed by Malena Dayen of Dialogues des Carmélites, where she debuted the role of Blanche de la Force, was selected as a National Finalist in the Opera Performance (university) 2025 division of The American Prize National Non-Profit Competitions In The Performing Arts, one of the most prestigious competitions in the US. In 2021, she made her European role debut in Crete, Greece as Ilia in Idomeneo with the Athens Philarmonie under the baton of Myron Michailidis. In 2022, she made her debut as Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi and Buoso ́s Ghost (Michael Ching) with Cali Opera and her company debut as Prima Maschera in Teatro Grattacielo’s production of Zandonai’s Giulietta e Romeo after making her appearance as a young artist in Houston Grand Opera’s prestigious Young Artists’ Vocal Academy. Additionally, she made her role debut as Zerlina in Don Giovanni both at Hudson Valley International Festival of the Voice and the Rhodes International Festival in Greece. Ms. Iranzo has been a young artist with Mannes Opera, Camerata Bardi Vocal Academy and a studio artist at International Vocal Arts Institute in New York, Savannah Voice Festival, and Campamento de Canto Lírico de Puerto Rico. She has collaborated with the Symphonic Orchestra of Puerto Rico, the Foundation of Zarzuela and Opereta of Puerto Rico and the Lyric Choral of Puerto Rico in numerous concerts and productions. A passionate advocate of Latin American composers, in 2021, she was invited to sing songs of Argentinian composer, Carlos Guastavino, at the United Nations.
In addition to her emerging presence in the industry, she has garnered acclaim in vocal competitions.This past February, she received honorable mention in the 3rd Annual Cali School of Music Concerto Competition, which she won in 2022. Iranzo was the winner of the Emerging Artist Award from the Mildred Ellor May Award for Opera Singers (2024). She took the Graduate Excellence in Opera Award (2024) and was a Finalist in the SAS Opera Company’s 4th Annual Vocal Competition (2024). Clara Luz was a Semi-Finalist in the Pasadena Vocal Competition (2022) and a National Finalist in the Opera Grand Rapids VanderLaan Prize (2022). She won third place in the Zarzuela, Voz y Olé Competition (2021) and was a National Finalist in The Schmidt Vocal Arts Undergraduate Awards (2021).
Iranzo obtained her Bachelor’s degree at Mannes School of Music, The New School and received her Master’s degree at Montclair State University with a full scholarship under the tutelage of Beth Roberts, Maya Lahyani, and coaches Bryan Wagorn, Victoria Schwartzman, Mary Pinto and Peiwen Chen. The generosity of Schmidt Vocal Arts has been instrumental in making her studies possible—a foundation that is dedicated to supporting and nurturing young singers through scholarships, competitions, mentoring and performance opportunities. During her time at Mannes and Montclair State University, she has sung for industry professionals such as Nadine Sierra, Isabel Leonard, Deanna Breiwick, Michael Fabiano, Quinn Kelsey, Laquita Mitchell, Lisette Oropesa, Stéphane Sénéchal, Kamal Khan, Christine Goerke and Margo Garrett. She is currently concluding her Artist Diploma studies at Montclair State University, where she also teaches voice to students from the Recording Arts and Production degree.
Inspired by the transformative power of opera and a strong desire to support other emerging singers like herself, she co-founded Opera Atlantic in 2024, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering paid opportunities for young singers while bridging the gap between opera and the communities around us. She is now the Artistic Director.
